  • Make sure your computer fulfills the minimum computer requirement for ResNet Provide ResNet with detailed information about your computer problem (when it started, what's wrong, etc...).
  • Leave your ROOM phone number as the call back number, RCCs won't call cell phones because it's generally a long distance phone call.
  • Be there when appointment is scheduled.
  • Have network card installed before an appointment is made, RCCs are not allowed to open the case of ANY computer.
  • Have restore CD, Windows 2000/XP or MAC OS X disks, and all driver disks available in case they are needed.

Preventative Computer Maintenance

What can I do to keep my computer running well?

  1. Run Windows Update at least once a month and download all critical updates.
  2. Install and continue to update AntiVirus Software. Western has provided Symantec AntiVirus free of charge to all students. Click here to download.
  3. If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, make sure the Windows Firewall is enabled. If you are not sure how to do that, download our firewall configuration tool that will configure the Windows Firewall for you if you have Service Pack 2 installed. If you do not have Service Pack 2 installed, repeat step 1 .
